what a low life this PM of ours, taking money in envelopes. i want a classy PM, someone who understands that money is to be deposited in secret hong kong bank accounts.

using low class envelopes is what might save him.

reshet bet reports that barak is considering demanding that olmert suspend himself, and wants to form an "emergency government" with bibi.

doing so would put kadima in the trash can, and would give barak a lot of tactical advantages. however it would probably mean that the negotiations with syria (such as they are) would have to stop.

efraim

did you go to the demonstation in which nothing was allowed to be sent into gaza?

#192703 Joe Wed May 28th 14:30:29 2008

Hi Ben,

How would it work if Labor pulls out of the government? Would new elections be the next step? How long would all this take?

Hope all is well,

Joe

#192704 Will Wed May 28th 15:19:06 2008

Ben,

Thats probably a new precedent for democracy. People being tolerated to bring starvation and terror on another civilian population. I'm not sure what that does for the phrase "innocent civilians".

#192705 ben Wed May 28th 16:02:51 2008

joe

if labor pulls out there are a few options:

1) new elections could be declared. they take a few months from the time elections are declared.

2) peres could go to barak and ask him to form a government. if he succeeds then a new government is formed and things continue. if not, then olmert remains as PM until election day.

3) if olmert resigns or suspends himself, then livni gets to take the reigns. she would also have to do some juggling to give her government stable.

there could be other scenarios in addition to the above.

addendum: it will take a lot of pressure on barak before he quits.

Here is a very brief article in the wonderfully objective "news" outlet Arutz Sheva, sinisterly entitled - Eyewitness: Arab Teacher and Students Attacked Driver.

www.israelnationalnews.com/News/Flash.aspx/147324

I have some questions ?

Who are the witnesses? not a single name is given.
How did the alleged witnesses know that they were a teacher with his students? Were they wearing Uniforms? Was the alleged teacher wearing a Gaberdine.? How did he know thet they were arabs? Were they also wearing Khafiyehs ? How could the witness see all this so clearly while passing by, probably at speed, on a highway ? How could he have counted the people to say that there were fifty of them ? how on earth could these alleged drivers by have known that the "teacher and his pupils" were on "an outing" ? And if rock throwing teachers and pupils has become such a routine occurence that kills drivers then why did they have to go back 18 years into the past to cite such an example ? I can personally remember people in Ireland and England being killed and injured far more recently than that by stone throwing youths and Ireland and even England are not apartheid regimes.

It seems to me that this article is a pile of rubbish concocted to arouse hatred and suspicion of arab educational institutions and children. Do people in Israel read this and just accept it and absorb it?

#192708 eugene Wed May 28th 16:55:22 2008

ha!
serves you well for reading the pile of rubbish that hides behind the name "israelnationalnews".

#192709 ben Wed May 28th 17:24:21 2008

Do people in Israel read this and just accept it and absorb it?

first of all you are talking about an english news site. secondly you are talking about arutz 7, which is not the most popular source of info in israel. i would venture to say that it is way down on the totem pole.

#192710 Will Delighted to hear it. Wed May 28th 17:43:59 2008

So Ben, I presume you basically agree with my assertion that it is a pile of rubbish concocted to arouse hatred and suspicion of arab educational institutions and children.

#192711 ben Wed May 28th 19:07:22 2008

will

i only said that the arutz 7 english site isn't the number one web site in israel. but it is also no secret that arutz 7 doesn't like arabs

#192712 Wael Wed May 28th 21:36:53 2008

Good to see this page is up again.

Ben,

The family is ok, its been difficult they're all ok.

I heard that Haifa Wehbeh concert in DT Beirut drew more than one million. Assy El helana (another popular singer) had to cancel his concert for "fear of the wild crowd". More than one million !! its official, Lebanese are a crazy people.

I don't understand the relevance. I don't know if their technology is primitive (maybe it is because of Israel's superior and enormously more expensive technology that Israel is preventing the Hamas rockets from hitting their target?), but certainly they are not stupid. They know what they are targeting, and they know that if they hit their target, then they would be responsible for cutting off the entire electrical supply of Gaza. Primitive technology or not, that says enough about them for me.

Speaking about news items that are inadequate and insufficient. Here is one from the frozen (or in today's case, wet) North. After days of this, from the leading newspaper yet, I still cannot understand whether polygamy is or is not legal if there no "offical" registration, despite the apparently clear-cut law (see insert quoting the law) that seems rather explicit:

www.thestar.com/News/article/434910

Aside from that, how is it that an apparently married woman (nothing in the news article states that he divorced her) under apparently Muslim law can then be married off again under Muslim law to another Muslim person and not be considered adultery? Where is the insightful commenatary here?

#192731 george Sun Jun 1st 17:43:20 2008

Out of 25,600 google hits for "eldad murder", I could find only one (of course I couldn't search all 25,600) that makes this reference:

www.israelnationalnews.com/SendMail.aspx?print=print&type=0.1&item=147352

So this guy, who alleges that Eldad is inciting to murder via verbal comment, responds by an open and written (on the website) threat to murder Eldad. Makes sense? Is this escalation? Revenge? Justice? Stupidity? Criminal? All the above?

Just came across this. Does this mean that any husband can have his marriage annulled if he finds out that the bride is not a virgin, or is it only a Muslim who can?

Being "late" in presenting evidence might conceivably be a legal-loophole, perhaps. But why would a video showing a defendant demonstrating bomb-making skills be "irrelevant" in a terrorist trial?

Interesting contrast between the paucity of websites carrying the previous story, and the plethora of websites (very few of "mainstream" news media though) carrying the following from Gaza:

How much of this is for real and how much of this is just made up for publicity? I mean, did the police really make the following statement about a certain private (that is, not elected to public office) civilian:

"We can only regret Mr. Gaydamak's brutal and menacing conduct, which is reminiscent of other regimes that are strangers to democracy," police said in the statement.

www.ynetnews.com/Ext/Comp/ArticleLayout/CdaArticlePrintPreview/1,2506,L-3550654,00.html

And are these the "brutal and menacing" statements of which they speak: "We are living in a police state"

www.israelnationalnews.com/SendMail.aspx?print=print&type=0.1&item=147540

Wow! Are the police really going to prove what a liberal, democratic country, upholder of free speach, Israel is by prosecuting him for those "brutal and menacing" statements!

And seeing as the law requires the bank (not the individual civlian) to report money transfers to the government, just what does it mean "Police suspect that Bank Hapoalim officials helped Gaydamak transfer the funds". Duuuhhhhhhh - that is what banks do - that is how they make money by transferring money.

the remarks in question were gayda's promise to ensure that the officer investigating him is fired. he remarks were made on tv saturday night. fyi already commentators, even lefties, are condemning the police for their attempt to charge gayda with this crime.

To demonstrate that Canada is as full of bureaucratic idiocy even in small things as much as anyone else, here is a test for the English speakers out there:

Find the grammatical (or syntactic) error in this sentence: The standard of living has increased.

shaul mofaz, is trying to cut a deal with shas, to become PM. mofaz is mofaz, afraid to fight the fight in the political arena. instead of primaries and a real election, he tries to cut a deal with someone who he thinks can secure him his place.

#192746 Will Cocoon.. Tue Jun 3rd 12:18:40 2008

Well Geroge your line of logic is fairly unsurprising. You start off by stating that you dont understand the relevance of my point, yet finish up by stating that you know enough to judge the situation. Good luck with that.

For anybody who doesnt know enough and feels it necessary to consider other people's points before judging I would like to ask again. How is it possible to condemn a militant as a terrorist for using unguided missiles whilst firing towards civilian clusters, then be simultaneously blamed for targetting Power Stations.
Which feeds into the bigger question of how could it be possible to condemn Hizballah for their actions in repeling the 2006 invasion of Lebanon with innaccurate missiles that were being fired towards civilian clusters whilst simultaneously sympathising with the Israeli Army who, with precision weapons, caused slaughter in civilian areas ?

George wants it every way that suits. Dont you, George?
